Quick EEE Factory Restore
April 8, 2008
There will be times when you’ll end up needing to restore the beloved EEE to it’s factory defaults. Luckily, with the EEE, this is a painless process which takes about a minute and a 1/2.
- Press F9 while the system is booting up
- Select “Restore Factory Settings” from the menu.
- Type in ‘yes’ to proceed.
The rest of the process is self explanitory. Just follow the on screen prompts. You’ll be back to your EEE goodness in no time.
A side note: as soon as you do this, you will lose all of your data that you currently have on your system. Including any tweaks and software updates you might have done to your EEE. Be prepared to re-tweak and re-update everything. This process takes a little more time, but is not difficult either.
- Press Control+Alt+T to open up a terminal window
- Type su (and enter your password)
- Type apt-get update to make sure the package list is up to date.
- Type apt-get upgrade to upgrade all of the EEE’s packages to the latest versions.
(say yes to any prompts it asks)
As I mentioned before, this process takes a little longer, but overall, it’s faster than using the software updater in Basic Mode.
